Thanks to Netflix, there is a new awakening.
Seemingly, people are not always aware that they are disgustingly attracted to serial murders until Netflix decided to air their hit series ‘You’ that features this dashing, not-so-average Joe Goldberg and their true crime documentary titled Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.

Joe is sweet, he makes sure you are always safe, he follows you down the subway in case you drunkenly decide to jump on the tracks, he will tidy your room and pick up your unwashed laundry and possibly keep it in his creepy wooden box of creepiness. He will tweet and post on your social media in case you suddenly find yourself trapped in a glass box. More importantly, he is so determined to keep you, he will kill anyone who is a threat to your relationship. Sounds like a dream, right?
After that high with Joe, comes in Ted Bundy. Unlike Joe who is a fictional character that is completely made by some sicko writer, Ted Bundy is the real deal. He is a serial murderer/rapist that preys on beautiful women. He admitted to 36 murders, all recorded in tapes and is featured on a Netflix Documentary: The Ted Bundy Tapes became a must watch in days and people are swooning hard.
It was made clear in the documentary that Ted possesses a gorgeous face and he used that charm of his to lure women to his trap. It showed the gruesome nature of the crimes Bundy committed, how he raped and brutally murdered thise women, youngest is 12. The documentary was a success and it shone a light to new avenues.
Following that horrific documentary, surfaced a news article about Zac Efron nd his portrayal of Ted in a new coming adaptation of his life. It is a known fact that Zac is the hottie of Hollywood with him representing the Bundy murderer, people are left with mixed emotions.
Surely, there is a psychological explanation to this modern plague but we are still in denial that this attraction to killers and psychos are not normal. We are sucked into the viod of beauty standards that we are willing to overlook things, in this case, 36 committed felons by rape and murder.
We are so drowned with the concept of beauty standards that we are willing to overlook things just because someone pretty did them. We are using beauty as a currency. To get out of troubles, whether that be getting out of a speeding ticket or getting out of trial for murders.
For example, in the Ted Bundy Case, he is a former law student and with the Judge showed mercy and disappointment to him saying that in another lifetime, maybe he would be a good law student. People are wrapped around this concept of beauty and good looks because we are cultured in that way.
For Joe, it helps that people were let inside his head. People were on his side because it was so apparent that he is doing the right thing. He let people hear his thoughts and if they are good enough for him to follow, then why should people think he is a psycho?
People are easily swayed by how someone presents themselves. If he is too good looking, then his hands can’t get dirty. If he is sweet then there is nothing wrong with stalking the girl he likes because he is protecting her. But the truth is, people are so naive.
So yes, it is quite disturbing how people can swoon over these criminals but we don’t onow, maybe it’s just another fad of the decade.
