Que Horror inside the ghast world—a look into atypical Tony Perez’ Damit ng Bakla

By: Hazel Gane Pilapil

No one could ever tell that a single, innocent, deceiving, hallucinating ukay ukay dress can bring a terror to anybody who laid their hands on it, wear it, unless Tony Perez has been given a pen and let himself paint the rest.

The last winning story inside of Tony Perez’s Sitio Catacutan is composed of realistic and at the same time, weird-eerie situations that has the same format from Shake, Rattle and Roll series but has the huge comparison when it comes to delivery of suspense.

Terminologies and choice of words (and its a waste when readers think directors dont give the story a chance to leap in big screen when the fact, it bagged various awards in horror literature) are accurate to every characters, labeled from different genders, class, different people, variety of compelling stories.

What really is disturbing, when you let your eyes and mind be brought by the context, specifically from Joey Dela Rosa being a designer who was confused to what love is for the sake of gay people, and was hugged his entirety by darkness when he decided to design the mysterious dress, you also could be wrapped by the darkness and could question yourself at the end, what is the point of all these things?

The lives of the characters (Designer, Prominent Artist, Makeup Artist, Guest Relation Officer, and daughter of Tarot reader) are the unusual characters that has never been featured to any medium. Everytime the curse that is intentionally made to be spread in every sides of the fabric falls to each different bodies, the king of tales of horror Tony Perez successfully maintains the slow burning eerie that shocks readers in outside or inside of their system.

What could be reflected at the dead end of this classic horror is with or without the witch dress, it is given to the lives of the people that accidents, falling of pitfalls, and darkness inside of human mind might exist if the ones who owns it doesnt have the capacity to control their insanity.
