Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) is not complete without the judges. Here is the list:
In the English category, let’s start with Filemon Viduya. He had been a reporter in different news beats and currently a professor in Polytechnic University of the Philippines in various writing subjects. He also graduated in the said school. He published two books about Journalism- Basic Journalism and Feature Writing. He is the judge in Editorial Writing.
Another professor from the Department of the Journalism is Krupskaya Valila. She graduated in University of the Philippines with a degree in Broadcast Communication. She is currently Social Media News Desk at TV5. She is also the Acting Chief in the Media Relations Services in PUP. Copyreading and Headline Writing is the category assigned to her.
On the Editorial Cartooning, Christwin Felix is the judge. He is currently a professor in the Department of Journalism in PUP.
A professor with the mastery in Media Literacy, who teaches in Senior High School, College and Graduate School, is the judge in News Writing. He is Jose Reuben Alagaran II. Aside from being a faculty in PUP, he also teaches in other school like in the Department of Communication in Mirriam College.
Bernardo Regalado is former professor in PUP-Journalism, head of the Philippine Star Campus. He is currently the Senior Public Relations and Social Media Analyst at ASCO Power Technologies. He graduated in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and earned his degree on Public Relations and his Master’s degree on aster in Communication with Specialization in Communication Management in Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He is the judge in Science Writing.
Manolo Pedralvez is a former editor Philippine Journalist Inc and currently a Senior Sports Writer in Malaya. He also writes in Business Insight. He is the judge in Sports Writing.
A Palanca Awardee for his piece Chenelyn, Chenelyn, a children’s book is the judge for Column Writing. He is Raymund Magno Garlitos, a feature correspondent in Manila Bulletin. Aside from Chenelyn. Chenelyn, he had won other literary awards for his three other pieces.
Aileen Camille Dimatatac is a freelance photojournalist and a member of an NGO named Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC). She is also a professor in PUP teaching communication subjects. She is also a photojournalist in a newspaper. She is the judge in Photojournalism.
The Chairperson of the Department of Journalism in PUP is the judge Feature Writing. She is Hemmady Mora. She has strong educational background with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, M.A. in Communication Management and presently finishing an ED.D degree.
Now that we are done in the English categories, let’s get to know the Filipino categories judges. Let us start with Erlinda Bolido, the judge for Pagsulat ng Editoryal. She is currently an editor in Philippine Daily Inquirer. She is also the author of “Entangling Alliances: How the Third World Shapes Our Lives”.
Next is Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo ng Balita which is being criticized by Elizabeth Hua. She is a retired Journalism Adviser.
A viral sensation for his Magna Cum Laude speech on his graduation last year is John Robert Bolledo. He is the judge in Pagsulat ng Balita. He is a graduate in PUP and currently teaching in the Departmet of Journalism. Now, he is a researcher in Investigative Documentary, a documentary show in GMA.
Jieven Santisteban, a former Rappler Reporter and currently writing in JourKnows is the judge for Pagsulat ng Agham. He is a Physics graduate and believes that Press Conferences are more than writing contests. It is a medium for the youth to be awakened with the current issues in the country.
In Pagsulat ng Palakasan, Aris Solis is the judge. He is a former Sports Editor in Manila Times and currently an instructor to his Alma mater, PUP. He is also the Media Relations Officer in the said school.
Ramil Cruz is a writer in Abante Tonite and the judge for Pagsulat ng Kolum.
Gregorio B. Dantes Jr. is a University of the Philippines graduate and currently a photojournalist in Pacific Press. He is assigned for Pagkuha ng Larawan. He is also part of the crew of This Time (2016) and Girlfriend for Hire (2016).
The last jury is Mr. Generie M. Manuel. He is an English professor in De La Salle University and a School Paper Adviser in the said school. He is the judge for Lathalain.
