Astronomy? Astronomy!

Theresa Calatcat

In line with the celebration of the National Astronomy Week this third week of February, National Planetarium is the place where you should go and be mesmerized with the stars.

National Planetarium is home for the models of the celestial bodies found in the solar system- the planets, the sun, the moon and the constellation. It copied its shapes, color and their distinctive characteristics like the moon’s craters, Jupiter’s red spot and Saturn’s ring.

The planetarium also exhibited how Astronomy affected the lives of our ancient people; by using constellation as indicator of their harvest season, the stars as their navigator and the cycle of the moon as a signal for feasts. They even named animals after the moon and make myths from phenomena such as eclipses.

The well known and most believed theory of the universe is also present there- the Big Bang Theory. A sketch of how the universe has started up to the future state of it thousands of years from now is shown there.

This is the good news, the admission is FREE! However, if you want to watch the film showing, it is 30 pesos for students, 50 for adults. It is located in Luneta Park near the Japanese Garden.
