Despite its unsigned status, the EP reached number 35 on the official UK album charts during its first week of release. On August 2017, she debuted her second EP, You. And in its opening week of release, it peaked at number 6 on the official UK Albums Chart—29 places higher than the peak of Intertwined, this is considered as her new personal best. Why do fans love her?
One of the most special things about Dodie is her authentic connection with her audience. She always keeps things real, and isn’t afraid to share what she’s feeling either good or bad. Her authenticity allows for her fans to feel a strong connection to her, even though a screen. There’s no doubt that Dodie’s little corner of the Internet is a special place to be a part of.
She came out openly as bisexual in 2016. She has since been celebrated as a prominent bisexual role model and campaigner.
Grew up in Epping, a town outside of London, Dodie told in an interview that she held her very first job at around the age of 14 where she worked as a waitress doing catering at weddings and events. She was asked why she first decided to create a Youtube channel, she explains that because she was a fan of other Youtubers, she wanted to see herself in “the same box that they were” because she wanted to prove herself that they “all lived on the same planet.”
What are Dodie’s music influences?
As for who she considers to be her most significant influences when it comes to music, Dodie names Emily King, noting that she loves the way “every single line is surrounded by harmony.” She mentioned in the interview that she appreciates Ethan Gruska in terms of production, and that she looks to musicals for the “dramatic flair.”
She revealed that she has two way of making music: either a song pours out of her, or she goes with what she calls a “Frankenstein method,” where she collects ideas over months and puts them together.
On November 2017, Dodie published her autobiographical book entitled, Secrets for the Mad: Obsession, Confessions and Life Lessons.
This year, her third EP, entitled Human came out last January. The EP rose to number 5 on the official UK Albums Chart, getting the recognition that really deserves.
