A Filipina hero will soon grace the Marvel universe.
Comic book writer Greg Pak revealed on his Twitter, March 9, the first look to Marvel’s new Filipina superhero. Named Wave, she will join other new Asian characters in the upcoming comic, “War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas.”
Wave is designed by Filipino comic book artist, Leinil Francis Yu. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Yu mentioned that Wave is of Cebuano origin, and tentatively named “Pearl Pangan,” who manipulates water and know technology-based power.
However, Wave is not the first Filipino superhero from Marvel. In 2008, the comics introduced a group of Filipino superheroes named the “Triumph Division” which debuted in Invincible Iron Man #2.
Even though there’s still not much revealed about the new Filipina heroine, it’ll only take a couple of months before fans could officially meet Wave. The comic’s first volume is set to be released in May this year.
Coinciding with International Women’s Month, let’s celebrate the
upcoming badassery Wave will show as she saves the Asian continent against Malekith,
a villain from Thor series.
