Generation Snowflakes

Alvin Ilustrisimo

We are now living in the 21st century. A lot of changes have had happened in the past 20 or more years. We cannot deny that the generation from then and generation from today’s millennium is far differ from the past. They say that the today’s generation are easily offended by some old dark jokes. Unlike before, they say people have more tolerance in hard situation and harsh words than people nowadays
In an article of The Sun UK they define the term snowflakes as the people who are over sensitive. It was based on 2010 slang snowflakes implying to an individual who has a high inflated uniqueness, an unwarranted sense of entitlement, easily offended, over-emotional, and people who cannot deal with the opposing opinion.
Independent UK written an article about millennials re-watching the comedy sitcom Friends after it arrived on Netflix at the end of 2017. The story of the comedy sitcoms described by he snowflakes as homophobic, transphobic, and sexist. Not only in Friends but also in a comedy film American Pie. They say the film is sexist and misogynistic.
We could agree more by knowing that the today’s generation is far more sensitive and self-destructive than the people from before. That’s why sometimes we could see a lot of fights and arguments in the internet most especially in social media like Facebook and Twitter. When you are about to criticize someone’s fanbase for example the fans of the famous Korean pop group BTS was known for its vicious fans (some of the fans) when someone teases or bash their bias. Or in other aspect when people posted their opinion about such sensitive topic like gender. When people contradict the LGBT community, expect a crowd of people to bash or to dislike your opinion. They will surely include your mom and other of your family in the argument.
In today’s millennium we cannot deny that we are have an over sensitive generation. Back in the days where people could tolerate such harsh jokes, but now you might want to be careful. Not just because you might hurt someone, but also someone might hurt you because of unwanted opinion you are having.
