Plastic Armageddon

Alvin Ilustrisimo

The world’s problem because of the non-biodegradable plastics are getting worse as the years goes by. According to Our World in Data, bakelite, the first synthetic plastic was produced in 1907 and became a global industry until on this day. Imagine people are having so much plastic waste where are they hoing after we throw them in the trash can?. In the dampsite surely, but others will go to the ocean. Plastic and any synthetic products are bad to the health of any marine wildlife. Sometimes it cost their life the moment any creature in the ocean eaten the plastic.

There is approximately 80% of plastic waste in the ocean came from land-based sources and only about 20% from marine-based products. And not just in oceans, even in our own rivers we could see an obvious evidence of plastic pollution. Here in the Philippines we have what we called Stero where the water is surely black and composes of lots and lots of plastic waste. Even in Manila Bay before (before the rehabilitation) it also compose of lots and tons of plastic waste. But after we throw those plastics away, where will they go?

According to Environmental Health News there are approximately 311 trillion tons of plastic waste we have since 2014 and it was expected to be triple by the year of 2050. It is a bad news for the all living things on earth. Plastic as we know is bad even for our health. However a single plastic decomposes for about hundreds or even thousands of years. While taking a lot of years we human are suffering from our own mess. By the next 20 to 30 years the earth will surely be full of plastic waste. It is happening under our nose and we cannot stop it. It is to late for us now?
