Playlist: The Umbrella Academy

Lorrianne Aryenz Valdecantos

Let’s talk about the Umbrella Academy’s brilliant playlist and why should we all listen to it.

First of all, have you watched it already? If not, you’re missing out. The world is ending, seven orphans with superpowers and a set in 2019 with no cellphones, internet and computers, just telephones, pneumatic tubes and the ability to jump in time. If those weren’t good enough for you, then this should do it.

For me, the soundtrack makes or breaks the entire thing. It can either spoil the production or make it more appealing. Fortunately for the Umbrella Academy, their score is impeccable. I for one think that the Guardians of the Galaxy have the best soundtrack but now, Umbrella Academy beats it by the long shot.

PS: Netflix

Some of the gems that you can find on their official playlist on Spotify are: Saturday Night by Bay City Rollers, I think we’re alone now by Tiffany, Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader and of course Don’t stop me now by the OG Queens.

Meanwhile, the writer and creator of the Umbrella Academy is Gerard Way, yes the lead singer of My Chemical Romance also took part in creating this badass playlist, performing a rendition of Happy Together, and Hazy Shade of Winter.

It is important to me when I finish a film or a series, their songs would be etched on my mind with a corresponding scene from the production. This playlist does it for me and now, whenever I hear Dancing in the Moonlight, all I remember is how Luther and Allison danced their hearts away in the middle of the park.

So, if I haven’t made myself clear: the Umbrella Academy playlist deserves all the love from the world and people should really be more involved on the soundtrack of something is. It should speak volumes and fill in the between the lines part of your favorite production.
