Craving is never easy, but deciding what to eat has never been hard for PUPians. When our taste buds demand to be pleased, we don’t even have to go to food parks anymore. From the Main Campus all the way to Pureza and Hasmin; from sweet to salty to sour, we got it all in here!
In PUP, not only the students are creating a legacy. Just as globally competitive as us, are the food we have. Some are famous even before we become students in our Sintang Paaralan. Even though some are rarely spotted nowadays, others are gradually gaining its popularity once again.
Here, we have the rising-from-the-dead legends—food which went out of the limelight but had its comeback. The PUPian food you thought were gone:
1. FEWA
Also known as Footlong Egg Wrapped Around—the foot-long hotdog is literally wrapped in scrambled egg with cabbage strips and cheese, and of course, poured with catsup and mayonnaise. You can have it for as cheap as Php 40. This is actually the most famous food in PUP, and is even known by few non-PUPians.
Way back years ago, you can see and buy this almost everywhere in the vicinity, but now, it’s just hard to look for a food shop that sells this. One famous FEWA maker is Virgin. She still sells it, and will always be selling it. She became so famous in the community not only for making delicious FEWAs, but also for being frank and jolly while making the sandwiches.
FEWAs’ prices are all the same, and they are all iskolar-friendly. And it could actually fill the emptiness in your tummy. You could never go wrong with FEWAs.
2. Submarine
This one’s not your ordinary ulam, and not every kainan has it. This tapa-like beef dish looks like Adobong Tapa, but no. This is too sweet for that, and the onions made it definitely better! It’s always a sold-out dish, so you will have to get it as early as you can if you really, truly, madly want it.
The students loved the way its taste differ from the other beef recipes sold in the campus. However, as time goes by, submarine became infamous since dishes found at the lagoon upgraded. But behold, Submarine’s making a big comeback with beefier and yummier taste because some stalls are selling it again after a break. Just a little patience because Submarine is somehow hard to find, maybe it just hasn’t risen off from the ocean’s surface?
You can enjoy this dish for only Php 40, and Php 45 with rice.
3. Japanese Cake
Not only available in PUP, but it’s been going on in here for years. This is so affordable and so good at the same time. It’s a small pancake stuffed usually with cheese, chocolate, or cookie sandwich. The most expensive stuffing, which is the Oreo, or sometimes a small amount of Kit Kat, costs Php 15 only.
They use legit Oreo and Kit Kat—just because it’s on the streets and is cheap, doesn’t mean it’s fake. Most of the vendors sell it hot and will always be an all-time favorite merienda.
There was a time when the one and only Japanese cake seller inside the Mabini Campus was gone for months, and badly, the carts outside were nowhere to be seen as well. It’s frustrating to crave for something that is so good and they just all happen to go at the same time. Now, they are back all at the same time too, and it’s one of the best comebacks ever.
4. Pancake ni Ate at COC
Not only cheap but also yum! This pancake is COCians’ all-time favorite and go-to snack after strenuous school works. Some students from nearby colleges like CEA even go to COC just to get this. You can pair it with Ate’s ice-cold chocolate drink—a perfect combo when your taste buds just want some sweetness. Just imagine savoring this soft thing topped with creamy condensed milk and grated cheese in your mouth. Then imagine sipping the thick choco drink. Yes.
Though there was a time when Ate went on hiatus for days and was nowhere to be found, maybe it was nearing holidays and she thought that the students won’t be at school anymore that time? But when she came back, her pancakes just got even better. The entire wait was all worth it.
Her pancake costs Php 12 and the choco drink is Php 7 only.
