And here we are again, entering the most colorful period, election season. Metro Manila’s city states will once again become a battlefield of clans fighting for power ala Game of Thrones. Let’s take a list of who will clash this 2019 midterm election in 17 kingdoms of Metro Manila.
Caloocan
Incumbent mayor Oca Malapitan will seek his third and final term together with his running mate Macario Assistio III. He will be faced by Ronnie Malunes of Labor Party.
Las Piñas
Incumbent Mayor Imelda Aguilar will seek another term this time with her daughter April Aguilar-Nery as her running mate.
Manila
A three-way battle between Estrada, Moreno and Lim will happen on May. Incumbent mayor Joseph Estrada picked KABAKA chairman and former congressman Amado Bagatsing as his vice-mayor. Bagatsing ran for mayor against Estrada last 2016 elections.
Meanwhile, former vice mayor Isko Moreno will faced his former tandem Estrada for mayoralty post under Asenso Manileno party, his running mate is the incumbent vice mayor Honey Lacuna who happened to be under Estrada’s ticket last 2016 polls.
Former Mayor Alfredo Lim will also take another bid to reclaim the seat in Manila under PDP Laban.
Makati
Sibling war between Binays will happen this May in Makati. Abby Binay-Campos will seek another term in office together with vice mayor Monique Lagdameo. Binay-Campos will run against his brother, former mayor Junjun Binay who picked District 1 Represntative Monsour Del Rosario as his running mate.
Junjun is supported by majority of the city council while Abby is backed by his father former vice president Jojo Binay who will run for the congressional seat in District 1.
The two Binays will be joined by Ricky Yabut, son of former vice mayor Arturo Yabut.
Mandaluyong
The dual dynasty of Abalos and Gonzales will continue in Mandaluyong. Mayor Menchie Abalos will seek another term while Congresswoman Queenie Gonzales will run unopposed.
Marikina
Mayor Marcy Teodoro will run for second term for mayor.
Parañaque
Mayor Edwin Olivarez will seek another term with Rico Golez as vice mayor. The tandem will be challenged by former Mayor Jun Bernabe Jr. and councilor Jeremy Marquez. Bernabe is served for three consecutive term as mayor from 2004-2013.
Taguig
Cayetanos will try to expand their dynasty in Taguig. Former Congressman Lino Cayetano will run for mayor under Nacionalista Party. Incumbent mayor Lani Cayetano is term limited and seeking congressional seat in Taguig’s second district.
Meanwhile his husband former DFA Secretary Alan Cayetano will run in Taguig-Pateros district. Alan Cayetano announced that President Duterte will endorse him as the speaker next speaker of the house if he will run for congress.
The Cayetano dynasty is challenged by Cerafica brothers who are members of PDP-Laban.Congressman Arnel Mendiola Cerafica will run for mayor together with his runningmate former Taguig representative Jun Duenas. Arnel’s brother Allan Cerafica will face Alan in their stronghold Taguig-Pateros District.
San Juan
Vice Mayor Janella Estrada will run against former vice mayor Francis Zamora for mayoralty race in San Juan.
Zamora is running under the banner of PDP-Laban, while Estrada will contend under the political party of her grandfather Manila mayor Joseph Estrada, Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).
Quezon City
Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte will continue her joy of public service brand as she ran for mayor in QC, she will be challenged by Congressman Bingbong Crisologo.
Belmonte picked Gian Sotto, son of Senate President Tito Sotto as her running mate while Crisologo chose lawyer Jopet Sison as his tandem.
Pasig City
Another Sotto will run too, this time for mayoralty race in Pasig City. Councilor Vico Sotto and former Rep. Roman Romulo will challenge the Eusebios of Pasig.
Sotto will run for mayor against Robert Eusebio while Romulo will retake the congressional seat currently held by Ricky Euebio.
Pasay
The Cunetas are eyeing for a comeback in Pasay 19 years after their patriarch, Pablo Cuneta held the executive position.
Cesar ‘Chet’ Cuneta will face off Rep. Emi Calixto-Rubiano for mayoralty race
