“Teenager Post #8993: My voice sounds great when I’m singing with my earphones on, then I take them off and I realize I sound like a dying walrus.”— it struck my attention as I was scrolling down and reading stuffs in social media. Numerous people around the world were undeniably addicted to singing; but, not all were fortunate to be gifted in such field. Many want their voices to be pleasing to the listeners; and by the progress of improving technology, aspiring singers now have their frustrations ended.
Auto-Tune is a pitch correcting software intended to fix notes in a vocal performances. Pitch correction has become one of the most widely used vocal processing tools in studios around the world. The majority of recording artists were using auto-tune to make their song sound beautiful. In this industry, singers and non-singers as well as their producers are fond of making their music widely accepted by the listeners to patronize their song.
Auto Tune— the secret behind the angelic voices of those actors and actresses idolized by vast population of TV viewers. How? Record that song; apply auto-tune and surprise! A voice you never expect. Ofcourse, they have to explore other gimmicks aside from acting to have their fans more impressed. But the thing is— you are fooling yourself. It’s like you’re claiming yourself a “recording artist” when in fact, all records were just made auto-tuned. It was such a desperation intensified, at some viewpoint. It’s quite accepted nowadays, especially that almost majority of “aspiring singer” uses it. Well, it’s fine because it’s your technique and business indeed, not ours, to sell your name in the industry by this way. But it’s just sad that the ones who often won platinum awards, held concerts and have best-selling albums are the ones behind the use of auto-tune. It’s somehow disgusting and unfair to the professional ones that lacks the opportunity to be known. To those singers who can sing well but chooses to use auto-tunes like Cher’s Believe, Sia’s Chandelier and Arianna Grande’s Problem, it’s a bit disappointing especially if you’re a fan and you know they’re too good for that. Aren’t they informed what will their listeners think if they use it? But we can no longer rant about it. Auto-tune were already existing and it’s its purpose to polish and much accurate, edit the voices that’ll be heard—same thing as being hindrance to have us exposed with real talents in singing industry.
I am not against those artist who are fond of using auto-tune, it’s just that, maybe they can have it more minimal. And for the music industry, maybe they should still explore individuals with great talents in singing to fed the listeners a much realistic sound. All in all, we must still recognize the existence of auto-tune that lend opportunity to those who also want to experience having a music career. Auto tune made it possible for the non-singers to have their voices heard and introduced to the public. Though edited on some point, it is still probably from their voice. Missed that high note? You’re out of the tune? Don’t worry; it can be fixed by auto-tuning.
