Juanita, a Netflix Original Film dropped last March 8 and it was the spiritual movie I am waiting for.
The film tackles about a single mother who raised three children. One ended up in jail, other a drug user and the last one a teen age mother. Juanita is working as an aid in an elderly hospital and when her favorite patient dies, something inside her snaps and she decided to pack her bags and head somewhere, anywhere far away from her troubles and regrets.
Unsure of where she’s heading, she randomly pointed to a place in her map and purchase a bus ticket to her destination, Butte, Montana. After arriving to Butte, she met a lovely trailer driver, Peaches and she hitchhike to a quaint little French restaurant where she landed a job after demanding fried eggs and bacon. Little did Juanita know, her world would completely change.
Different from other movies where the lead spends her time running away from her troubles into a place where she finds new love and settles there, Juanita stands out from that crowd. Even though she did find love and she found a place where she is welcomed, she did not stray from her ultimate goal: to travel. She left her newfound love in that little french diner because she wanted to see the ocean and she did.
This movie speaks volumes to those people who aimed to keep traveling to their heart’s content only to be stuck at the next town because of the new love they found and they once again, felt the need stay for love. But often times we forget to love ourselves that we forget the very thing we need to do.
Guess what? Juanita left that little french diner, she did travel to the ocean because she owe it to herself. She owe to all the years she spent taking care of other people. We could learn a thing or two from her: Maybe sometimes it’s okay for you to take care of yourself first.
