K-12: The change is here

By Rexiel Cal

Following the news of hesitant employees to accept K-12 graduates is another batch of statement from the Department of Education (DepEd) by emphasizing the work immersion that the students perform is enough to make them “job-ready” and capable to reach the standards of every company.
Clearly this K-12 program is still an experiment to the world of education, as the first batch of the new curriculum will hold their graduation on March. Everything with this program is still a blurry road with just the lights of assurance from DepEd.
Some companies even compare the college degree holder between the Senior High School graduates at the issue of employment. What will make them more secured and who will they choose for their company? Surely the four-year-course attendee with a diploma.
But the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) is different from the K-12 program. This new program demands the students more to grow and give the students the higher level of academic lessons. Take note of the fact that the main purpose of the K-12 program is to get the students ready for college, as we can see, that means teaching them all of the advanced lessons and have their work immersion of 80 hours.
With this program, DepEd take the students to the higher level of education and this first batch of K-12 is just the first set of people to receive the kind of education that is higher than the basic. After a decade or two, the Philippines will be competent enough with the other countries that prioritize education too like India and America.
