After being hiatus for eight years, the first thing Park Bom wants you to know that she is OK. The next thing she wants you to know is that she is excited about releasing music again for the first time after years away from the scene.
Park Bom’s comeback was remarkable and inspirational. She was hated by the entire country (South Korea) for something she didn’t do. She stopped doing what makes her happy, she was hiding, she lost hope, and she was drowning in the ocean. But now, she’s flying high up in the sky again!
Get to know the person who rose from the ashes behind this new music.
After seven record-breaking years as the powerhouse vocalist of internationally beloved K-pop girl group 2NE1 – the outfit that held a two-and-a-half-year-long record as the highest-charting K-pop album on the Billboard 200 chart, became Korea’s first female act to play U.S. stadiums as well as the first Korean group to hit No. 1 on the World Digital Songs chart – Bom relinquished the spotlight after a controversy arose over alleged “drug smuggling”.
The star and her former record label YG Entertainment shared that the singer was diagnosed ADHD and taking a prescription that was legal in America, though it is not legal in South Korea. While she was never charged, the issue put the star’s career on a sudden halt, seeing her depart a reality show she was filming, and seemingly playing a factor in 2NE1 ultimately disbanding in late 2016.
With all the heartaches 2NE1’s fandom has shared, Park Bom decided to move to D-Nation and recorded an album and released it on March 13. So far, Park Bom’s Spring music video has garnered over 2 million views in 10 hours. Thi was Park Bom’s first comeback after her last solo in 2010, ‘Don’t Cry’
‘Spring’ (Or BOM in Korean) has also taken in the top 10 spot on several Korean Real Time charts making her comeback almost an all-kill (which her former girl-group always does in every comeback). The hastag #OurSpringParkBom was also trending worldwide on Twitter.
During her first showcase, she becomes emotional as she answers questions regarding the recent scandals of her previous record label. It was not the place or time for it, but she answered gracefully.
A reporter asked her about what she thought about her former label, YG Entertainment, and Seungri of BIGBANG. The reporter asked what she thought about YG Entertainment facing difficult times with its continuous scandals with their artists. Park Bom seemed taken aback by the question as she carefully answered that she was too busy with her own work to know what was going on with YG.
Netizens and fans who heard the questions criticized the reports for being inconsiderate to Park Bom’s long awaited comeback. They deemed it was not the place and time to ask her about sensitive matter that she had no connection to whatsoever.
Stream Park Bom’s Spring mini album on Spotify and watch the music video on Youtube because she deserves to be re-welcomed in the showbiz industry warmly.
