VPAA to lessen the students’ extracurricular activities

By Rexiel Cal

Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ office of the Vice President for academic affair (VPAA) is stopping a lot of extracurricular activities to happen inside the university.
As we had observed, a numerous activity proposals of the organizations inside the college of communication was rejected by the VPAA since according to them, activities that are non-academic related will not be allowed.
Unlike the previous years, college activities now are just small celebrations and are only given limited time.
In the previous years, Mr and Ms College of Communication is a big event organized by Teatro Komunikado and usually done in a big stage.
This year’s Mr and Ms College of Communication is done in COC-AVR and allowed only two audiences per contestants. Candidates ramp their casual wear and precede the question and answer portion. And the whole pageant only took one hour.
We are also after the high quality of education that every student deserves but enjoying through the college activities should considered.
Students are already stressed with their projects, exams and thesis; why not give them some time to enjoy their college life and allow these activities to ease the stress that was bought by academics.
There is nothing wrong with our office of the VPAA‘s purpose for rejecting this activities but just allow some of these activities to happen for the sake of enjoyment of the students.
