After the success biopic of QUEEN’s legendary vocalist, Freddie Mercury, famous serial killer, Ted Bundy is having his own biopic and it is to be taken seriously because former Disney star, Zac Efron is portraying this vile human being.
The 2019 American biographical thriller film directed by Joe Berlinger and written by Michael Werwie, was unveiled at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. In October 2017, Lily Collins was casted as Bundy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.
Although the trailer looked different, actors and crew members have been telling to not romanticize serial killers, rapists, burglars, necrophilia’s, and other wicked sinners. Fans have been raving at how Zac Efron and real-life Ted Bundy look alike based on the pictures of Efron recreating mugshots of Bundy when he was in prison.
The movie talks about a chronicle of crimes of Ted Bundy, from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth, who refused to believe the truth about him for years. It is an interesting take on the serial killer, showing the story of his murder trials from her perspective. The director distinctively doesn’t glamorize Ted.
This is one of those movies that will get you, your family, and friends talking right after watching it!
In terms of serious roles, everyone who grew up watching old Disney shows (while they were at their peak of success), saw how Efron struggled to strip-off his Troy Bolton image by starring to few notable movies for the past couple of years. For some critics, they see this movie as Zac’s best one yet. While Lily Collins, you know her for her notable outtake of Rosie from Love, Rosie. After being in the industry for so many years, critics have noted this movie as one her best ones also.
Good news! Netflix have bought the film. Since the release of Ted Bundy’s confession tapes last month, Netflix was kind of a silent bystander for the most part of Sundance. The streaming service spent a cool $9 million on the purchase (wow!)
Don’t worry, the film will still get a theatrical release so that it will qualify for awards.
Are you excited for Lily and Zac’s performance? We are too!
