El Deposito Museum

Theresa Calatcat

Have you ever wondered how the water ways system works back in the Spanish occupation here in Manila? Well, El Deposito Museum has the answer for that curiosity!

El Deposito is a newly opened in San Juan City, the center of Manila. It gives us a bird’s eye view of how the water ways system of Manila is planned and built by Don Francisco Carriedo. In memory of him, the museum houses a replica of the fountain found in Carriedo, Manila.

It is recommended to go there because that is a place where history and modern technology ignite to give us a better view of what happened before. Through a touch screen television, you will see every blueprint used in the water ways system which is a good reference for the inspiring civil engineers. Also, a virtual reality is open there to give us a glimpse on what happened in El Deposito during Bonifacio’s revolt.

The curator of the Museum said that they have been reconstructing the actual tunnel since 2015. But every time the rainy season comes; the rain water flooded the ways. Currently, they are still preserving the tunnel for it to be available to the public.

Also, the timeline of how El Deposito is made, who made it impossible and what is it now is presented there.
